Best Graduate Student Paper Award – IGALA 2023

In our last blog post of 2022 we explained how to take part in the Best Article Prize that will run, as it is tradition now, during the upcoming IGALA Conference.

More info about the conference can be found here. The next IGALA conference will take place in July 2023 at the University of Brisbane, in Australia. The call for papers is still open for a few days (January 23rd), send your proposal soon!

The Best Article Prize is not the only long-standing tradition at IGALA Conferences, in fact the Best Graduate Student Paper Award will run this year as well!!!!!

If you are a graduate student and you have written a paper in line with this year’s conference theme (Gender, Language, and Sustainable Organizations) you might be eligible to submit your work for this award.


The call for submissions can be found here and is reported below:


IGALA is calling for outstanding Language and Gender graduate student papers. The theme of the IGALA 12 2023 conference is Gender, Language, and Sustainable Organizations. Graduate students are encouraged to submit papers that work within this broad thematic area.

Papers will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

· Academic importance and originality of research topic to the field of language, gender and sexuality

· Coherence

· Literature Review

· Textual quality


Submission guidelines

· English only

· 5,000- 7,000 words in length

· in PDF format

· 12 pt. font

· Single-spaced


Submissions should be original work that has not been published, or accepted for publication elsewhere. Co-authored submissions are eligible as long as all authors are graduate students. Submissions co-authored by supervisors/advisors are not allowed.


Submission must be received by 1 March 2023 and emailed to GradPaper.IGALA@gmail.com


Please include your name, department and university, and email address in the body of the email; in addition, indicate your status as a graduate student member of IGALA.

Awards will be presented at the IGALA 12 Conference, 4 – 6 July 2023.

The winner will receive a two-year subscription to IGALA which includes a subscription to the journal Gender and Language. The winner will also have a chance to work with the editors of the journal to develop the paper into a published article.
